GoerTek, Qualcomm Jointly Develop Standalone VR Platform
March 15, 2016

Chinese consumer electronics and VR (Virtual Reality) device maker GoerTek has announced the availability of the world's first standalone VR platform running on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor, according to GoerTek's press release on March 14. The VR platform is comprised of a head-mounted display and a controller box. GoerTek was in charge of the system design, including mechanical, electrical, optical, acoustic, and firmware development while Qualcomm provided high frequency inertial data sensing, motion to photon latency reduction, power efficiency management, and stereoscopic rendering with lens correction. Devices based on GoerTek's standalone platform can work independently of any other device (for example, a connected PC).
